Riverton’s dining scene has been growing, improving, and catching attention. The latest restaurant to grab state-wide headlines is Ichiban, a Japanese steakhouse that opened in the spring of 2023. Owner and trained chef Jerry Zhang, originally from Hong Kong, has opened five Ichiban and Sapporo restaurants in the state in Gillette, Evanston, Rock Springs, Sheridan, and now Riverton, WY.

Zhang was recently featured by Cowboy State Daily about his expansion in rural Wyoming. From sushi to hibachi, his restaurants offer small-town Wyoming residents a taste of Hong Kong Cuisine that they would normally have to drive a long distance to find in a bigger city. 

For Zhang, it’s about becoming part of the communities he serves. He told Cowboy State Daily that America is a place where dreams come true. “You know, for me, it’s just working hard and giving back always. Keeping a nice heart to involve the community. It’s my honor to be part of a community. It’s very important,” he said. 

Other Riverton dining options have been receiving recent attention including Sweet Surprises bakery on Main Street. It’s a community on the move with a lot going on and the need to feed hungry families and visitors. Riverton is a great destination whether it’s for a cross-country trip to Yellowstone or a weekend getaway. There are plenty of places to stay and now Ichiban has made another great place to eat and enjoy the community that is Riverton, WY.
