The Riverton High School boys basketball team was recently recognized as the top team in Wyoming by MaxPreps. MaxPreps specializes in coverage of high school sports. The site is used by coaches, news outlets, families, and recruiters to find rankings, stat leaderboards, schedules, scores, and news.
Riverton basketball plays in division 4A, the largest in the state. The boys team has qualified for the state tournament the last three years. They’re hoping All-State selections and returning seniors Parker Paxton and Darrick DeVries will lead them to their first state title since 2017.
Jerrad Anderson is a reporter at County 10 that covers Riverton High School sports. “The team looks really good,” he said. “They have several outstanding seniors who will make them a state champ contender. It will be tough, but they’re right there in the mix.”
Boys basketball isn’t the only team in Riverton, WY that is making strides in the right direction. Under the leadership of a new head coach, the football team was 5-1 in their conference this fall and made the playoffs for the first time in a long time. This was a huge improvement from the past two seasons. The boys’ golf team was the state champ this year and the girls’ team finished third in the state. The girls’ swim team has grown tremendously and with a new head coach is looking to establish a new culture and future success. Riverton High School has a lot to be proud of.
Riverton is known as a great place for families and solid sports programs are just another benefit to living in such a great community.
